Maintenance of the 3DO Imager Media

Care and Maintenance of 3DO Imager Media

Important information about your 3D imaging system
The Imager is a Dynamic 3D Media which may be venerable to environmental conditions such as excessive moisture, excessive dryness and oxidation.

The Imager uses a Special Electrostatic Foam material which produces a series of electrostatic voltages used to create 3D data.   On occasion, oxidation can occur between the 24 karat electrodes and the conductive carbon based foam.   this may  cause some interference with the data sensors on the large PCB (printed circuit board).

Cleaning The Electrodes
  • Unplug the USB cable
  • Gently remove the Top Cover from the 3DO Imager which is secured by velcro.
  • Remove the foam panels which are on top of the 14 karat electrodes
  • Take a clean cloth and apply some Alcohol and wipe the top surface of the gold plated electrodes.
  • Let the area dry for a few minutes
  • Re-apply the foam panels with the black foam on the top surface of the gold electrodes.
  • Re-secure the Top Cover

Cleaning the Top Cover

Use a clean cloth and a light (damp) amount of water and gently wipe the surface of the Top Cover.  Leather cleaner and conditioner will also revitalize the top cover.  Do not use alcohol or solvents.   We encourage scans to be done with socks or nylons to keep the top cover clean.

Caution:   Make sure no patients step on the USB interface with the Controller Board.

Scanning
It is critical that the 3DO imager media be on a flat floor surface (0 degrees).   If the floor surface is not at 0 degrees, it will interfere with static and dynamic data.   Use a Carpenter Level or IPhone also has a level application that works well.
